What is Cataract ?

What are the risk factor for  CATARACT?
  • Increasing age, diabetes, alcohol, exposure to sunlight, family history, high blood pressure, obesity, previous eye injury, smoking, prolonged use of corticosteroid medication.
Symptoms of Cataract 
  • Clouded, blurred vision
  • Increasing difficulty seeing at night
  • Sensitivity to light and glare
  • Halos around lights
  • Fading or yellowing of colours
  • Double vision in a single eye
Diagnosis of Cataract
  • Eye examination on a slit-lamp by an eye doctor, reading an eye chart.
Treatment of Cataract ?
  • Cataract surgery: removal of the clouded lens and replacing it with an artificial lens. This is done under local anaesthetic. You will not need to stay in hospital. If you require both eyes to be operated upon, the doctor will remove the second cataract in a month or two after the first operation.
Prevention cataract
  • Wear sunglasses when outdoor, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, quit smoking, reduce alcohol consumption, have regular eye examinations, control other medical conditions such as diabetes.
