What is Conjunctiva?

Contents  >>  Conjunctiva, parts of conjunctiva, nerve supply of conjunctiva and arterial supply of conjuctiva.

I am telling you about conjunctiva which is an important part of our eye.so we should know about it please read the article fully learn about the conjunctiva, structure of conjunctiva, nerve supply and arterial supply of conjunctiva.

Conjunctiva is mucous membrane covering the inner surface of the eyelids and reflected to cover the anterior part of the eyeball over the sclera, up to the corneal margin.

Parts of conjunctiva
·        Palperbral consists of marginal, tarsal and orbital part. It is firmly adherent to the deeper tissue.
·        Bulbar lies over the sclera and it is freely mobile.
·        Fornix is the cul-de-sac ant the junction of palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva.

·        Limabal is the conjunctiva at the corneal junction which is adherent.
Structure of conjunctiva
Epithelium
a)     There are two layers of epithelium over the palpebral conjunctiva, transitional stratisfied squamous epithelium at the inter marginal strip
b)    From fornices to the limbus the epithelium is gradually thicker (4-6 layers)
c)     Again it is stratisfied epithelium at the limbus.
d)    Goblet cells are present throughout the epithelium, especially more near the fornices.
Sub-epithelial layer is an adenoid layer of loose connective tissue containing leucocytes.
Fibrous layer is much dense, and blended with the deeper structures.
Nerve supply of Conjunctiva
Opthalmic division of trigeminal nerve. (5th Cranial)

Some information about glaucoma

Arterial Supply in Conjunctiva
Anterior conujunctival artery from the anterior ciliary artery. Posterior conjunctival artery from the lacrimal artery. Palpebral branch of nasal artery.

Today I am telling you about Iris which is an important part of our eye.so we should know about it please read the article fully learn about the Iris, structure of Iris, Nerve supply of Iris. Location of Iris The iris lies in front of the le ns and the ciliary body.It separ ates the anterior c ha mbe r from the posterior chamber .Pupil is situated slightly nasal si de of center. Its periphe ry or root is attached to an terior e nd of the ciliary bod y. Anter ior surface of the iris is divided into two zone s - 1.centr al p upilary zone 2.peripheral cilia ry zone . There junction is a circula r ridge ,call ed " collarette" which marks the embryonic site of the mi nor vascula r circle of iris, f rom wh ic h the embryonic pupil l ary membrane originated.the ciliary zone is marked by man y ridges a nd crypts ,but the pupillary zone is relative ly fla t.
